E. V. (Ted) Hird

BACKGROUND

After graduating from the University of British Columbia in electrical engineering, Mr Hird spent his first six years in telecommunications with the B.C. Telephone Company.

He then moved to Lenkurt Electric, progressing from Marketing and Manufacturing to President in 1977.

Subsequently, after Lenkurt was merged into Microtel, he became Executive Vice-President Marketing.

In 1983 he began his practice as a telecommunications consulting engineer.

Mr. Hird is a registered Professional Engineer in British Columbia and a past Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors of the British Columbia Institute of Technology.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Mr. Hird has conducted technical/financial feasibility studies, market research and product analysis in many areas of telecommunications for clients in Canada and the United States.

The studies include PBX Systems, Long Distance Alternatives, Microwave and Multiplex Transmission Systems, T1 Networks and Network Management Systems.

He is the Editor of the Telecom Advisor, the quarterly TMC magazine, distributed to approximately 6000 telecom voice/data managers and executives within B.C. and Alberta and to a limited distribution outside of these areas. It is designed to keep them up-to-date on interesting applications of technology, regulation and other newsworthy events.

Mr. Hird is well known in North America as as a former Contributing Editor of TE&M (now Americas Network) Magazine, with frequent articles on telco transmission technology, especially digital cross-connects, SONET and network management systems.
